How Guest, Registered Personal, and Registered Business Accounts Differ in the Buyer Portal.

The B2B Edition Buyer Portal replaces the BigCommerce account pages on your storefront. It provides extended and augmented functionality for all your buyers, not just B2B company accounts. This article discusses the differences in user experience and functionality you can expect.


Only want to allow B2B registrations on your site? You can configure which type of registrations to allow in Settings > General.


B2B - Registered Business Accounts

What is included:

  • Access to the branded buyer portal login and registration page

  • Approval process for business registrations

  • Creating and managing quotes in the buyer portal

    • Access to company-level quotes

  • My order and Company order listing and detail pages

    • Plus, additional functionality: add an order to a shopping list from the order detail page, and included order history

    • Shopping list approval process for Junior Buyers

    • Access to company-level shopping lists

  • Quick order functionality.

    • Including purchased products and the ability to add those to cart, quote, or shopping list, quick order pad, and reorder.

  • Company address book management [If enabled]

    • A B2B user address book lives inside the B2B Edition company profile.

  • User management

    • Set up and manage additional Admins, Senior Buyers, and Junior Buyers

  • Super admin masquerade and abilities.

  • Account settings

What isn't included:

  • Invoices (Coming July 2023)

  • Wishlists (Shopping lists are a replacement)

  • Order Messages (Quote messaging system is a replacement)

  • Returns (Not yet supported in the Buyer Portal)

  • Stored payments methods (Not yet supported in the Buyer Portal)

  • Recently view products (Not yet supported in the Buyer Portal)

  • Store Credit (Not yet supported in the Buyer Portal)

  • reCAPTHCA (not yet supported in the Buyer Portal)

B2C - Registered Personal Accounts

Registered personal accounts have access to limited functionality inside the Buyer Portal.

  • Super admin abilities

  • Company-level address book

  • Invoicing

  • User management

  • Shopping list approval process

  • Wishlists (Shopping lists are a replacement)

Guest - Unregistered Accounts

What is included:

  • Quoting [If enabled for Guests]

    • Can only access a quote from a link, or quote email.

  • Ability to place orders as a Guest [If enabled inside BigCommerce]
